Academic Stages Nomenclatures

Reception Stage (RS)

The academic levels included in this stage are Toddlers (2 years old) and Play Groups (3 years old). The curriculum used is an international standard curriculum, which focuses on developing English language literacy and phonics (the science of pronunciation of letter sound manifestations), motor coordination, colors and objects recognition, interpersonal interaction, responsibility, independence, and play time. In the Reception Stage, the main language used, both in class and during play time, is English.

Foundation Stage (FS)

The academic levels included in this Stage are Kidergarten 1 (TK-A) and Kindergarten 2 (TK-B) - ages 4 and 5 years old. The curriculum that we use at the Foundation Stage (FS) is also an international standard curriculum, which focuses on developing English language literacy, phonics, Indonesian language literacy, simple mathematical reasoning and logic, introduction of the surrounding environment, motor coordination, interpersonal interactions, solving simple problems, etiquette and mannerism, responsibility, independence, and play time. The main language used, both in class and during play time, is also English, except when in Indonesian language lessons. Some of the learning output targets in K2 (TK-B) are as follows:

1. being able to pronounce phonics of all letters in English.

2. understand the meaning of all English instructional verbs relevant to class settings, such as: sit down, stand up, move aside, move back, come in, get out, tidy up, push your chair in, close the door, open the door, thank you, apologize, etc.

3. understand the thematic vocabulary meaning closest to students such as family, classroom, home, animals, transportation means, professions, hobbies, everyday activities, holiday activities, etc.

4. able to understand teachers’ instructions in English.

5. able to properly imitate writing, both letters, numbers, phrases, or simple sentences.

6. able to understand and carry out basic communication in English, both with friends and adults, in the context of everyday life and school settings.

7. recognize numbers 1-1000.

8. being able to do addition and subtraction of two to five perfect numbers.

9. being able to compare values (larger, equal to, and smaller), which are presented through visual objects or numbers.

10. being fluent in reading and understand what they read.

11. being able to wear clothes, pants, socks and shoes themselves.

12. being able to identify features of social interaction and overcome simple conflicts that arise when interacting with friends, both in class and in play grounds, for example: apologizing, reporting to the teacher what he thinks something is incorrect, thanking people who help them, sharing with friends, etc. .

13. being able to explain stories or films they have heard or watched.

14. master 10 songs in English.

15. being able to overcome critical conditions, such as urinating and defecating in the toilet by first telling the teacher or Teaching Assistant.

16. being independently able to do homework given by the teacher.

17. being able to pray and lead prayers in English.

18. being able to hold stationery properly.

19. being able to color images neatly.

20. being sensible and able to obey teachers and rules, both general rules in schools, special rules in class, and special rules in play ground.

Key Stage 1 (KS-1)

The academic levels included in this Stage are Primary 1 (SD-1) and Primary 2 (SD-2) - ages 6 and 7 years. The curriculum we use at the FS level is also an international standard curriculum, focusing on the continued development of English literacy, phonics, Indonesian language literacy, simple mathematical reasoning and logic, the introduction of the surrounding environment, motor coordination, interpersonal interactions, solving simple problems, etiquette and manners , responsibility, independence, and play time. The main language used, both in class and during play time, is also English, except when in Indonesian language lessons. The learning target on this stage is continued from the learning target in the FS.

Key Stage 2 (KS-2)

The academic levels included in this Stage are Primary 3 (SD-3) to Primary 6 (SD-6) and the curriculum we use at the KS-2 level is called Enriched National Curriculum (ENC). The focus of learning is in accordance with the contents of the national curriculum but is added with English Language lessons that appear every day, bilingual Mathematics and Science, as well as the obligation to use English during chapel session and play time. When in grade 4, an inventory of topics in order to face the National Exams in grade 6 starts and is taught in stages to ensure students’ final grades on the national exam are high.
